JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Investigators are looking into the possibility of a heat-related death in North Florida.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene where a body was found Wednesday night.

The body was discovered at 1060 East 21st Street near an abandoned restaurant.

An investigator at the scene told First Coast News they are looking into the possibility of heat stroke.

Temperatures Wednesday reached a heat index of 107 degrees in some parts of town.

Doctors say taking the necessary precautions to prevent heat-related problems is key.

"Limiting your exposure outside is probably the first step. Trying to avoid being outside in the heat of the day, especially around noon time. Taking breaks, coming inside, getting out of the air conditioning, drinking lots of fluids," says Dr. Brad Elias with Baptist Medical.
